40. Robert Simmons (Lt.)(Jr.)
Lt. Robert Simmons was in Revolution. Went west to settle lands grandted for
war services. Stopped in Abbeville district of S.C and decided to go by water
to LA where land grant was located. Stopped in Knoxville to build boats for
voyage. While waiting for spring rains daughter Jane met Col. James Roulston,
who was then living with his father Matthew on his farm abt. 20 miles up river
in Jefferson Co. where the Nolichucky and the French Bend meet. They were
married in 1801. Soon after the wedding the rest of Jane's family, except for
her brother John went to La. Colonel James Roulston and her brother John
Simmons served in the war of 1812. John married Naomi Jered, daughter of Capt.
